Pinner

Upon return from New Zealand and after several months with the family split between Nan's in Pinner and Jean's in Wembley we all moved into a house in Pinner, not far from Nan. It was in a good road and close to a good school but it needed some work and had no heating. Dad re-joined the Police but at a time when the pay was poor. Over the years the house gained central heating (installed by Dad) and numerous other upgrades. As children we would benefit from homegrown and homecooked food and hearing Radio 2 on the radio. Mum was always there to see us off to school in the morning and let us in when we had finished. We were indulged with pet mice and a rabbit, all of which had more freedom than most such pets. Mum would pick elderflowers and elderberries and make drinks; also blackberries for jam. We would have a family walk on a Sunday at such places as Ruislip Lido, Ruislip Woods and Rickmansworth Aquadrome. We'd travel in a variety of solid old Volvos.
